About Caterina

Caterina Panetta was born and raised in Rome in a bilingual Italian-German family. As a certified Tourist Guide and Sommelier, she gives guided tours in Rome and wine tastings.

She studied Art History at Roma Tre University and graduated in Renaissance and Baroque art with a dissertation on Women artists active in Rome in the 17th century. After some years of tourism experience, Caterina earned a Sommelier Diploma at the Worldwide Sommelier Association.

Art, Wine, and a Life of Exploration

Over the years, her profession brought Caterina to further investigate the liaison between her university studies and the new subject of interest. Art and wine constantly enlace in Caravaggio’s paintings, in dionysiac scenes of Roman sarcophagi or even in frescoes of ancient catacombs.

Being a Tour Guide in Rome is a life choice. It means to be surrounded by natural beauty, spending the day among majestic aqueducts, ancient neighborhoods, colored inlaid marbles and frescoed maps of the 1500s. It also means continuous updating on what’s new in Rome. There is always an exhibition to explore, or a revolutionizing archaeologycal theory to know about.

A Cosmopolitan Guide and Customized Experiences

Caterina is also a globe-trotter. In the past twenty years she has travelled extensively around Europe, Asia, Africa and the US. Her cultural baggage gained a cosmopolitan flavour that she conveyed into her profession. Caterina also sings as a soprano in a polyphonic choir that often performs in the same ancient Roman churches suggested in the various city tours.

For many years Caterina has organized personalized itineraries, wine tastings and food pairings for an international clientele, in English, German and Italian. Her clients can be passionate travellers, business companies, or international organizations. Suggested activities are intended to blend various aspects of Italian culture, in order to enhance its complexity.

Such itineraries are also intended to unravel Rome and its surroundings by revealing more about its unusual and lesser known sides. There are many semi-deserted museums in the city, rich in marvelous treasures to be discovered.
